Big Sky is located in southwest Montana. It has an altitude of 6800 ft (2073 m). Lone Mountain (right) is the largest of three mountains with a summit of 11,166 ft. Big Sky is also one of the Western Gateways to Yellowstone National Park. |

Virginia City is a well preserved old west town located approximately 40 miles west of Big Sky. The discovery of gold in 1863 during the Civil War resulted in the town growing to 10,000 people in less than a year. |
